Start by making changes to your shopping cart
It is common to buy flour-based snacks, the so-called "special breads", donuts, cookies, crackers, with pipes, with peanuts, with a barbecue flavor or tomato and oregano flavor.
It is very easy to get hold of a few bags of these products, leave them in the pantry and use them when there is hunger between meals, before lunch or dinner, or take them to accompany cheeses, creams, soups, etc.
As I said, this is very easy, but are you aware of what it means to take this type of product without control? Do you know the amount of empty kcal you are consuming when you eat them? Do you know where all that flour goes and What implications does it have for your health?
You probably buy them in good faith, you think they are not harmful to you or your family, you think that since they are not "sweet" they do not contain sugar and that they can be taken without fear, but "salty" is also a problem.
Make your psyllium seed crackers at home and control the ingredients.
I would recommend that you eliminate these products from your diet and the first thing you can do to achieve it is not to buy them, perhaps you think I am very radical, even my proposal seems uncompromising, I'm sorry, I can't say what you would like to hear, I must tell you the truth.
And unfortunately these types of products, no matter how appetizing they are, are not suitable in any diet, neither low in carbohydrates, nor balanced, if you decide to consume them anyway, reduce your intake to the maximum and choose those that are made with quality whole grain flours.
But don't worry, there are more options, you can continue to enjoy these delicious snacks, the problem right now is that these products are still not found in Spanish supermarkets, they will obviously arrive.
But for now the best option is to make your seed crackers and salty snacks at home.
Get started with these psyllium seed crackers, no refined flours, no unhealthy fats, no preservatives, and no artificial flavors.
If you want to know how to make them, keep reading because you will love this option, the best thing is how easy they are to prepare, their flavor and how good they will suit you.
Change the snacks based on refined flours for these seed crackers, they will help you reduce generalized inflammation.
More refined flour, more body fat
Because ... How many times have you taken a bag of pipe sticks for lunch and then felt heavy? And how many times in addition to that heaviness, have you got hungry shortly after finishing them?
Do you see it logical to put more than 500 kcal between your chest and back and be hungry after a while? There something happens right?
The answer is YES, something happens and it is very common when we recharge our diet with carbohydrates, it happens that you eat them, anxiously because you are hungry, it happens that all that carbohydrate load is digested quickly and the blood glucose level increases , your pancreas is forced to work.
A lot of insulin is synthesized so that all that glucose is absorbed by the cells, part of it will be used by your brain, it needs it to continue working, but another large part becomes part of that warehouse where "just in case" energy is accumulated in form of…. yeah, you guessed it, FAT.
More flour, more cereal, more bread, more starch leads to more body fat.
I imagine that all this is already familiar to you, in reality, the metabolism of carbohydrates is more complex, as are that of proteins and fats, but the basic idea is what I have explained to you.
Get used to the idea that more flour, more cereal, more bread, more pasta, more starch, in short, more carbohydrates, leads to more body fat, so it is important to reduce the consumption of these foods and choose those that contain them less measure.
But it is that in addition to the accumulated fat, the refined flours and all the ingredients that accompany them in this type of products, they produce something worse, INFLAMMATION.
And it is precisely inflammation that is responsible for many of the chronic diseases that threaten us today.
Find your alternatives
These crackers are an example of how you can enjoy a salty snack without the disadvantages that commercial products entail, that is why it is so advisable to roll up your sleeves and act for your own benefit, preparing your recipes at home and controlling the ingredients.
Be proactive, search and find your healthy alternatives, these crackers are one of them.
You prepare your crackers, let them cool and store them in an airtight box, you already have healthy snacks for the week, take them to work or take them with your favorite soups and creams, taste them, and rest assured that you know what you eat and control the ingredients.
In many cases, certain healthy foods are considered expensive, there are people who think that nuts are exorbitantly priced and that seeds are overrated.
Nuts and seeds are not expensive, refined flour is.
Regarding this issue, stop and think, How much do you think it costs to make cookies, crackers and donuts at an industrial level? Taking into account that most of its ingredients are refined flours (very low cost) and starches, think about it.
The cost of production is certainly very low, but the retail price is exorbitant, in this case it is, because, what are you really consuming? Refined wheat flour, starch, vegetable oil (hopefully sunflower), preservatives, binders and industrial flavorings, and some seeds or legumes, in very low doses.
Therefore, paying 2 or 3 euros for 200 g of roasted almonds, which implies their cultivation, production and final processing, paying less than 1 euro for a package of roasted peanuts or a bag of peeled sunflower seeds and 3 euros For a bag of walnuts, it's worth it, don't you think?
If you compare it with paying 1 euro for a bag containing 6 breadsticks with pipes whose cost price is negligible, you realize the great margin that the industry has and how these products DO have an exorbitant cost, since behind them there is neither quality nor work, and furthermore, they seriously harm our health.
Also do not forget that these are very sweet foods, designed so that you eat without being hungry, so that you bite and that once you start, do not stop.
With 200 g of almonds, assorted seeds, a few spices and a little butter or coconut oil, you can make many crackers at home, you can accompany salads and other dishes, you can take them as a snack and you know what you eat, because you have made them you.
If you prepare your own crackers you can adjust the flavors to your liking and vary them each time.
You know where its flavor comes from, you know why they have been more or less tasty and you can correct it, you know the nutritional value of its ingredients and best of all you know that they are beneficial for your health.
Prepare different versions, do tests, involve your environment, they will love it.
How to make these psyllium seed crackers
Making the dough will take you about 15 minutes, and letting it rest for another 10. Then you just have to crush it, first with your hand and then with a rolling pin, I like to divide the dough into two parts and form each of them separately, this is easier.
Once the dough is crushed, I make cuts with a sharp and wet knife to mark the shape of the crackers before baking them, so it is very easy to separate them afterwards.
If, on the other hand, you decide to bake the whole dough sheet, you will have no choice but to break them into irregular pieces, but it will be impossible to cut equal pieces.
A good trick is to knead, flatten and pre-cut the dough before baking it, they will be much better.
Bake for 15 minutes at 180ºC, remove the dough and remove the edges, then bake 5 more minutes, this is important so that the edges do not burn, so you can enjoy those discards, they are delicious!
Once the cooking is finished, it is important that they cool well, and you can separate the pieces to save them, if there are any left 🙂
I do not know if you want to try this recipe, I do not know if it seems like a lot of work, I assure you that it is worth it, if you have children at home let them help you, involve them in the process and try them, if there is any flavor that does not They like it at first, let them get used to it little by little.
First they will nibble on a corner, perhaps they will make a strange face, the next time they will eat a bigger piece and by the third time they will leave you without.
I assure you that making these crackers at home is worth it, one of the main reasons, as I have already told you, is to avoid industrial products and refined flours, the other is to increase the consumption of seeds and take advantage of all their advantages.

- 1 cup raw almonds
- 1/4 cup roasted sesame seeds
- 2 cdas golden flax seeds
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tbsp psyllium husk (provides soluble fiber and is very satiating)
- 1 cdita turmeric powder
- 1/2 cdita garlic powder
- 1 cdita Dried oregano
- 1/2 cdita sea salt
- 1/2 cup warm water
Elaboration step by step
Add the almonds and seeds to your food processor, grind everything together.
Add the spices and give it a few more pulses to mix it up.
Put the mixture of dry ingredients in a bowl and add the warm water little by little. You may not need all of it.
Knead while you are incorporating the water, when you have formed a compact ball, do not add more water.
Let the dough rest rest for about 15 minutes, so that the seeds (flax and chia) hydrate and gel, that will be the "glue" of the dough, remember that these crackers do not contain eggs or fat, and somehow there are than to amalgamate the dough.
Divide the dough into two parts and put it on a parchment paper, with another paper on top, crush first with your hand and then with a rolling pin. Be patient, do it little by little and if you see that the edges separate, rejoin them manually.
Mark the shape of the crackers before baking.
Bake at 180ºC, with the oven already preheated, for 15 minutes.
Remove the dough, remove the edges so they do not burn and bake the rest 5 minutes more.
You already have your crackers ready, let them cool and enjoy them. Do not forget to take advantage of the edges, they are delicious!
Freshly made, they are very crunchy, after a few hours not so much, if you want to dry them again, put them in the oven for 5 or 10 minutes at 160ºC, you don't want them to cook, just to lose moisture. For me this step is not necessary, I like them as is, but it can be done without problems.
- I got 18 crackers cut into squares of approximately 5 x 5 cm, in addition to many edges.
- I have considered that 3 units make a portion, that's why I have put 6 out, but actually a few more come out if you count the discards.
