Today I want to show you how to prepare a homemade sugar-free applesauce, it is a basic, easy and tasty preparation, it keeps perfectly for days and will be the perfect complement to your breakfasts, desserts or even some meat dishes.

You can consume this sugar-free applesauce without remorse, add it to your toast or prepare a sugar-free almond and coconut sponge cake, cut it into slices, put it in the toaster and spread it with butter, add this compote and enjoy a healthy breakfast.

Forget about the regular jams, try homemade sugar-free fruit compotes, you’ll love them!

If you are in the habit of eating jams, you should know that they are rich in sugars, in addition to those naturally present in the fruit, jams are prepared with a large amount of sugar according to the traditional recipe, that is why when I started to change habits I thought about finding a healthy way to consume “jam”.

Taking into account that the fruit already contains sugars in its composition, it is logical to think that it does not need more additives to be equally tasty.

By cooking the fruit over low heat you manage to extract all its juice and its natural sugars act as a preservative making the compote last longer in good condition.

Have no doubt, this compote will surprise you and will become a basic preparation in your kitchen, since I started preparing it, I have continued doing so and at home we have consumed it regularly, without remorse.

In addition, I use it to prepare my delicious Flourless and sugar-free apple pie, we eat it as if it were jam for breakfast or as an accompaniment to Greek yogurt or cottage cheese, it can also accompany a cheese board giving it a sweet counterpoint or a meat dish, it goes especially well with pork.

I did the first test with an apple and from there I looked for other alternatives with the fruits available in each season, pears, peaches, medlars, apricots, strawberries and pumpkin are some of them.

The truth is that sugar-free applesauce has become a staple in my kitchen and I always have a jar available in my refrigerator.

Sugar-free applesauce will surprise you with its flavor and natural sweetness

In this post I am going to explain how to prepare a sugar-free applesauce, you will be surprised by its sweet flavor and smooth texture, you can eat it as if it were jam, adding it to your toast or in yogurt.

You can also use it to make other desserts or even to accompany some meats, it usually goes well with pork and poultry (in this case it is better not to add the spices, the apple flavor is enough).

Properties and benefits of the apple:

  • It contains a lot of water, more than 80% of its weight.
  • It contains several vitamins, A, C, B1, B2 and E
  • Low in carbohydrates

Why I like this recipe so much and it is a staple in my kitchen:

  • It does not contain sugar.
  • It does not contain dairy.
  • The base of the compote is the fruit and nothing else.
  • Few ingredients and very affordable.
  • It has many uses.
  • It lasts for days refrigerated.
  • A healthy substitute for regular jam

Here’s a rundown of the ingredients and how to make it, but be sure to check out the full recipe below:

  • 3 golden
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • Water
  • A vanilla pod
  • A cinnamon stick

So you just have to cook the apple together with the lemon juice, water and spices, when it is done, crush it with a fork and store it in glass jars, once it cools to room temperature, store it in the refrigerator.

You can make the applesauce on the weekend, it lasts refrigerated for up to 7 days, you can also make preserves and keep them for months.

It lasts for a week and its aromas mix and increase after having rested for a few hours.

In addition, as you can see in the images, it maintains a light and bright color without succumbing to oxidation thanks to the effect of the lemon juice.

Its texture is soft, I like to crush it only with a fork, manually, that way you can find small pieces of apple and it has more consistency.
